Implantable medical chips

Engadget says that the FDA in the US has approved RFID microchips (called VeriChip), that can be implanted under the skin, and contain medical information about the holder.

Privacy issues aside, I think this is a great technological step. If someone is know to have problems with their heart, or a specific allergy (such as penicillin), and they've come to the hospital, there's no stuffing around while doctors try to find out what's wrong. They can see what problems this person has had in the past and treat them accordingly.
