Consumers snub portable video

According to an article at BBC News, a study by Jupiter research found that "only 13% of Europeans want to watch video while out and about".

I'm not really surprised. Right now, there is no real content for the PMCs. It's illegal for someone to rip a DVD to disk to put on one of those gadgets, so you're basically limited to music videos and some advertisements. Sure, you could put a home movie on it, but who'd really want to watch that while out and about? I'm sure kids in the back seat of the car won't.

However, sometime in the future, the idea might take off, but it'll require someone to make the online distribution of video and movies popular (arguably, like the iTunes Music Store has). I'm sure the people at Microsoft have something like this brewing, as they would realise there's no real content for the platform right now. I also hope Apple has something of its own brewing, so that it can stay in the game.
