I have put a comment on Jeremy's blog. It highlights some issues I have had with Macs.

The PowerBook's and associated Power models don't have a fast enough system bus. Get a G5 with a 600mhz+ bus and all your worries will be over. (Types this from a Dual 2.0 with 1.5gb of RAM).

One small thing: That 640MB of RAM is really not enough, I've found. Pump that sucker up with maxed out memory, and you'll be surprised. It'll be like you got a CPU upgrade. While a G5 would be faster, even one of those would crawl without enough memory. I went from 640MB to 1GB of RAM in my 12" powerbook and it was like a brand new machine.

It might be pricey, but it's cheaper than a new machine.
