Uh oh… Superdrive problems

I've been having issues with my PowerBook (more on that later), but this is worrying:

This has happened burning a disk image with Disk Utility, in the Finder, and a different (but I suspect related) error in Toast Titanium. Grrr. Any solutions?

(Just so this in indexed in the search engines, the error is "The device failed to calibrate the laser power level for this media".)

I also have this problem on an iBook whbich was purchased last year - I am about to send the iBook back to Apple to be repaired or my money back! I have read other forums which have also highlighted this problem and have managed to resolve it by using an optical cleaner disc. I have tried this without success! Even though my iBook is under a 12 month warranty, Apple want me to pay £35 to raise an Apple Care ticket before fixing the problem - hhhmm, I don’ t think so. Apple will be getting the iBook back to repair - free of charge as this Superdrive error IS evidenlty a known problem (hence the existence of forums like this which have highlighted the Superdrive error) and as such should be covered under their hardware warranty! PS. I am studying law.
