I also have this problem on an iBook whbich was purchased last year - I am about to send the iBook back to Apple to be repaired or my money back! I have read other forums which have also highlighted this problem and have managed to resolve it by using an optical cleaner disc. I have tried this without success! Even though my iBook is under a 12 month warranty, Apple want me to pay £35 to raise an Apple Care ticket before fixing the problem - hhhmm, I don' t think so. Apple will be getting the iBook back to repair - free of charge as this Superdrive error IS evidenlty a known problem (hence the existence of forums like this which have highlighted the Superdrive error) and as such should be covered under their hardware warranty! PS. I am studying law.
