The beginning of the end (or… how I managed to get kicked out of my own 21st birthday)

The beginning of the end

I had my 21st birthday party last Friday at CherriJam in Double Bay - an excellent venue! Some of my friends and my parents gave some wonderful speeches, after which I proceeded to take people up on the offer of shots… Bad, bad mistake.

The above photo is the last one I took that night. Can you guess what happened sometime after it? Ergh…

The latest Confluence bug

Jens decided he'd create a new issue for a bug in Confluence today… (hardy har har)

You guys are the best…

A wonderful, wonderful group of friends surprised me with a birthday present at Uni today… It was just the right mix of practicality and thoughtfulness!

Thankyou Georgia and Chris, Geoff, Jeanette, Sharon, Tim, Shab, Sheryl, Danu, Will and Kat, Rob and Justin… you guys are the best!

Happy Birthday to me!

Bah. I hate Oracle Forms. SQL is a pain, too. It's 1:40 in the morning of my 21st birthday, and I'm stuck doing the. worst. assignment. ever. Joy!

I guess it can only get better (now that I'm going to sleep) :D

*Random cursing*

In my rush to answer the door on Saturday (being the excellent host that I am… *cough*), I managed to trip over my laptop's power cord. Under normal circumstances, this would have been fine - had the PowerBook not been attached to it at the time! There was a *crack*, as the PowerBook hit the coffee table (at least I think that was it), and it fell to the ground. I didn't see any problems with it (and it's still working now), but afterwards the power light (the one that glows green and red in the power socket) wasn't lighting up.

Dammit.

Turns out something got messed up in the power adapter when I tripped (thankfully not in the laptop). $129 later and I'm back up and running again.

Relieved… but still, dammit.

Atlassian is Number 3 on the BRW Fast 100!

Atlassian was ranked #3 on the BRW Fast 100 list for this year. Congratulations Mike, Scott and all of the Atlassian staff!

Wow…

that was unexpected.

Damn. So when's it coming to Australia? ;)

Some quibbles:

  • The iPod video only plays MPEG-4 and H.264, with support for "future formats" via a firmware update. Although I doubt Apple would ever have supported DivX (or XVid, or whatever the format du jour is nowadays). It's basically saying "Hey! You can play your pirated shows and movies on our iPod! Come and get it!"
  • Where's the iMac supposed to go, in front of the TV? I don't see any TV tuner in there! (But there is one massive graphics card!) I expected an Airport Express for video, but not this…

Writeboard has been released

37Signals has (finally) released Writeboard; a collaborative writing tool. I haven't used it yet, but it looks really, really neat. I'll be definitely using it in an upcoming uni assignment to work with my partner.

My first accident!

Hmmm… had my first accident today. It wasn't really my accident, because I didn't cause it, but I was involved. I was driving through Killara and Lindfield, and a car up ahead decided to turn right without giving notice, forcing the car in front of me to stop suddenly. I stopped, and heard a *crunch* behind me. Oops.

Thankfully, there was minimal (== basically none) damage to my car, but the guy behind me had his lights smashed, the bumper had come slightly loose and the grille at the front had been smashed in, too. Damn.

Close-up of the left side

Gotta love French engineering, eh? I wonder how my car would have fared had I been in the other guy's position? Not that I'm willing to try…
