I had the pleasure of seeing Ben Folds perform with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra tonight:
It was a bit different to the usual concerts, but I still really, really enjoyed it!
The highlight was the impromptu arrangement of Rock This Bitch as a tribute to the late Steve Irwin (a suggestion by an audience member). After hearing the request, he sat down and wrote for a few minutes and then told each section of the orchestra what they had to play, and went with it. Awesome.
(On another note, the entry for Rock This Bitch on Wikipedia was edited by an anonymous user to mention the concert less than an hour after it finished. Crazy!)
I am pissed that I missed it. Do you know who Ben Folds is talking about in his song “too late”. The lyrics go along the lines of ” Elliot man tou played a fine guitar and some dirty basket ball…..the songs you wrote got me through a lot, just want to tell you that but its too late”. I have never been able to work out who he is mentioning but if I had the chance I’d be saying something similar to Ben Folds but it’s not too late with him. His songs have got me through more than you could probabaly imagine and I dont mean mushy love stuff in my life, I mean major stuff. So if your out there and somehow see a peek of this I won’t to thank you before it’s too late. You’ve got a lot of life left and raw inner soul beauty to offer. A rare trait. Excuse the typos in my last entry. Read your little section about yourself. Anyone who loves Ben Folds I find interesting. I used to go to UNSW myself. I was doing a combined ba Laws/Social Work but decided it wasnt for me. UNSW is a very anal university. I am currently a stuident at Macquarie and find it to be a far more pleasurable place to study. Do you know the anawer to my question about Ben Folds song “Too Late”. No-one has ever been able to answer me.
Due to the way my degree works, I haven’t actually spent a huge amount of time at UNSW. Lately, I’ve had to go to a lot of meetings at Sydney Uni, and am really liking it…

It is Elliott Smith, that Ben is singing about.
The singer took his own life, allegedly in 2003. He and Ben had toured together. His music is well worth a listen.
