Saddam Hussein has been sentenced to death by an Iraqi court. I don't feel even he should suffer the death penalty, despite the atrocities he committed.
The burning question for me is, what will the Australian government's reaction be? Banning the death penalty locally is applaudable, but an acceptance of the practice internationally is pure hypocrisy, no matter who the victim is.
What scares me even more Jemmie, is that when the sentence was handed down, he walked out with a smile on his face.
I hate to sound so morbid, but I hope that when the time comes, he feels the pain and suffering of every person and their families have felt because of him.
Perhaps he was smiling because he knows the shit will hit the fan when he is executed - he’ll become a martyr to his supporters and the violence in Iraq will only get worse.
i’m sure there will be attempted reprisals against u.s. interest by saddam’s backers but what do you aussies have to worry about? this texan thought all you aussies were a tough lot and didn’t mind a little scrap. i don’t have a problem with the death penalty but you would have thought we would have had a chance to torture him first.
Sadam will never die, you gave him the certificate that he is the Arabs Hero, like the others who died in the previous centuries.
If Sadam was executed for the Kurds that he killed. Bush, should be executed hundreds times for killing Americans and Iraqis in one time.
The time has come to stop having glory in another persons death, no matter what that person has done or accused of doing.
Did Saddam have a fair trial, did he deserve a fair trial ? who can say ! some would say he did not give others a fair trial whatsoever.
As a person once given a life sentence after not having a fair trial where evidence would have shown total innocence and police telling untruths to a court of law, one can say that there is no justice in this world, the only justice is the victors.
How can that be fair ?
Do the world a favor, hang Bush for starting the U.S attempt to dominate the world, leave the Arabs and the oil alone.
