Found it!!!

I've been looking for a piano piece I heard a couple of weeks ago, but have struggled to figure out the name because (1) I can't whistle in tune very well and (2) I find it hard to describe music. I heard this song on a TV ad (might have been Nescafe) and also in a profound movie called "Bangkok in the evening" from the 4th Bangkok Experimental Film Festival (BEFF) which I saw a couple of weeks ago.

I was looking through some iMixes on the iTunes Music Store and found it!

3 Gymnopédies: No. 1

Ah… that's made my day.

Ben Folds and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra

I had the pleasure of seeing Ben Folds perform with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra tonight:

Ben Folds and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra

It was a bit different to the usual concerts, but I still really, really enjoyed it!

The highlight was the impromptu arrangement of Rock This Bitch as a tribute to the late Steve Irwin (a suggestion by an audience member). After hearing the request, he sat down and wrote for a few minutes and then told each section of the orchestra what they had to play, and went with it. Awesome.

(On another note, the entry for Rock This Bitch on Wikipedia was edited by an anonymous user to mention the concert less than an hour after it finished. Crazy!)

Ben Folds [Five] Music Videos

Sony BMG (hissssssss) has put up a bunch of Ben Folds [Five] videos online. Woo! (Pity about the crummy flash movie player, though.)

An Inconvenient Truth

I saw An Inconvenient Truth tonight as part of the Sydney Film Festival. Al Gore provides some hard facts on global warming and the effect OUR activities have had on the planet over the past few decades.

This is one of those films that ALL people should see, no matter which country they're from.

There aren't any more SFF sessions, and it's apparently not coming to Australia until September… which means you might need to obtain it from more dubious source. Although I doubt the movie distributors are listening, BitTorrent would be the perfect medium to get the "message" out there.

(As a side note, I've moved across to one of EnergyAustralia's renewable energy plans, to contribute some small part to this. It's as easy as filling out an online form.)

Habana Blues

I saw Habana Blues last night. Awesome movie. That is all.

This has to be the best Cookies & Cream ice cream ever!

Simply the best Cookies & Cream ice cream, ever!

I don't know how they do it, but this is the best Cookies & Cream ice cream I've ever had… It's so good, I've devoured the whole thing over the course of three nights. I bet I could do it in one, though.

I am such a pig.

The Corporation

I finally watched The Corporation last night. It's a documentary on the basis of corporations and their "behaviour" in the world today.

I simply LOVE the "symptoms of a psychopath" checklist - it's a pretty frightening look at what these businesses get away with.

Mmm… souffle

Lucy and I treated ourselves to dessert at Bistro Moncur last night… and darn was it good.

We came primarily to have their souffle (in this case, a rhubarb one), and were recommended the chocolate and hazelnut fondant, and they were both extremely tasty! To top it off, the service was great - the waitress that served us was friendly and enthusiatic; something you don't always see.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

I saw Charlie and the Chocolate Factory last night. I must admit I don't remember much of the original (will have to watch it again), but I really enjoyed this remake.

Johnny Depp is excellent, and quite different from what I remember of Gene Wilder. He is extremely twisted and sardonic, verging on insanity.

It's not a movie that takes itself seriously, which I also liked.

*thumbs up*

Jamiroquai coming to Australia!

I found this via a post on the Jamline Yahoo! user group, but according to SonyBMG, Jamiroquai will be performing around Australia at the end of November/start of December. Woohoo!

The Sydney concert is on the 2nd December at Centennial Park (interesting…), and tickets go on sale on the 5th via VISA Entertainment and on the 16th via TicketMaster.

I can't wait!!!
