I found out that Ben had bought this CD the other day, and listened to it. I've heard her first single from the album, 'Scar', on the radio, and I thought it sounded OK.
However, after listening to the CD (over and over and over), I REALLY like it! Scar is a great song, but the other songs on the CD are fabulous, as well. Missy Higgins has a great voice, and it has a crispness that I find very appealing. One thing I also like is the fact that it's just a girl and her piano (and other assorted instruments). There's no use of sex or lust to get people to like her music - it's just her voice and her songwriting skills. I think it's a welcome change from what I've seen with many artists. (I'm sorry, did someone say Kelis? I thought I heard her name, but it could've just been someone coughing.)
My favourite tracks:
- Scar
- Nightminds
- The Special Two
- This Is How It Goes
(I could just add the whole CD, but these are my FAVOURITE favourites… :))
This is a CD I highly recommend to anyone!
I just thought I'd write about some of the things I've bought recently…

In a word… Yes.
The SMH has an article where the author, Christine Sams, whinges about Delta Goodrem being "snubbed" from playing at the Homebake concert in December. In fact, she wasn't just snubbed, she wasn't even considered in the first place.
Christine seems to neglect the glaringly obvious fact that Homebake is something commonly called a "ROCK CONCERT", representing rock and other relating genres. (i.e. not pop music) Delta would stick out in that concert like a straight man at the Midnight Shift.
I went to the Muse concert tonight at the Hordern Pavillion… I've never been to a Muse concert before, and it was amazing! The songs I had heard on the CDs were much, much better in concert. The lighting was great, too, and during "Plug-In Baby" (before the encore) balloons were released from the roof, streaming down onto the crowd while the band played… Absolutely amazing.
I also managed to snag a piece of one of the gigantic balloons that were released during the encore, so now I have a big, white piece of rubber sitting on my desk. (Go me!)
Peto bought some tickets the other day to the Muse concert in August or September (I have no idea… it was a spur of the moment thing) [UPDATE: It's September 10th. Thanks Peto] at the Hordern Pavillion. I have a feeling they sold out pretty quickly, so lucky us! [UPDATE: 27 minutes, to be exact. Thanks Peto (again).]
It shall be good to see them in concert…

My favourite CD right now is "Tapes, Breaks and Out-Takes" by the Cat Empire. It's described as a live tour album, and does have some live songs, as well as songs not included on their self-titled album (although some versions are on various singles).
The song I like the most right now is "Wanted To Write A Love Song". It's great! I also like Two Shoes, which I've heard live twice now…
There's an info page over at TheCatEmpire.info, which includes samples of the songs.
Wow! I was sure that there had to be an unofficial Cat Empire website, but hadn't found one… until now. http://www.TheCatEmpire.info
They even have photos and movies (better than mine
) from the concert on Sunday, here.

Just got back from the city after seeing The Cat Empire at the Coogee Bay Hotel. What can I say? It was amazing (once again). They had a slightly different line-up this time round, with a short 1st set, and then a longer 2nd set. They played a couple of songs not on the 1st album (they may be B-sides, promos, etc, I'm not sure), but the energy at the concert was just as good as the last concert. "Hello" was incredible. The group would lead into instrumental sections, and you could tell that these guys love the music they play…
We went to the Golden Century Chinese restaurant in Chinatown after the concert… My stomach is about to explode, but at least I'm content.
I'm importing the photos I took on my new camera into iPhoto now, to then be exported by Galerie and uploaded!
UPDATE: Album is here.
UPDATE 2: I just looked at the photos, and they're pretty crap! Serves me right for using the default mode on the camera… I just read the manual and discovered how to set the shutter speed manually. From 30 seconds to 1/1000th of a second. It would've come in handy last night. Oh well.
I bought some new CDs this evening:
Franz Ferdinand - Franz Ferdinand Seems pretty good so far. I especially like the song 'Take Me Out', which is being played on the radio in Australia right now…
Starsky & Hutch Soundtrack Haven't listened to it yet.
But I liked the music from the movie, so it should be good.
Basement Jaxx - Plug It In (Single) I haven't listened to this either, but the song on the album was OK, and this has some remixes of Plug It In and Rendez-Vu (from Remedy).
The Cat Empire - The Chariot (Single) I've listened to some of this already, and really like the live tracks, which were recorded at the Metro Theatre. I think they were recorded at the concert the night before we went, as the songs are similar, but not exactly the same as I remember it. Great nevertheless!
I just got back from the Jet concert at the Metro Theatre… It was pretty good. The doors opened at 8pm, and there were two warm-up acts: the Cannons and the Stands. The Stands were awesome! They come from Liverpool, and the drummer looks like 'Animal' from the Muppets (Lucy's comment). Very, very funny! Jet didn't come on stage until 11pm, and they only played for an hour, which was a bit of a let down. The songs they played were good, but the concert seemed to be missing something… I'm not sure what. It almost seemed like they were just playing the songs, one after another, to get the concert over and done with. Compare this to the Cat Empire, where they stretched every song out and put all their energy into it. The difference is quite clear.
